How to use the Amazon FBA calculator

  • Enter your selling price and product cost.
  • Enter your referral fee % and FBA fulfilment fee. Find the exact figures for your product in Seller Central or Amazon's Revenue Calculator, because they depend on category, size and weight.
  • Add storage, shipping to Amazon, advertising and other costs per unit for a realistic profit, and units per month to see monthly profit.

All fee boxes are editable, so the calculator works for any Amazon marketplace (US, UK, EU, India, Canada, Australia) in your own currency.

Where to find your real fees

  • Referral fee: a percentage of the sale price that depends on the category. Many categories are around 15%, and some have a minimum fee per item. See Amazon's pricing page.
  • FBA fulfilment fee: a fixed amount per unit for picking, packing and shipping, based on the product's size tier and weight. Lower fees can apply to low-priced items.
  • Monthly storage: charged per cubic foot (or cubic metre) of space, and much higher in October–December. Divide your monthly storage bill by units sold to get a per-unit figure.
  • Selling plan: the Professional plan has a monthly subscription; the Individual plan charges a fee per item sold instead. These aren't per-unit fees, so they aren't included above.

Amazon updates its fees regularly, usually announced in advance. Check Seller Central before relying on any figure.

Formulas

Referral fee = Selling price × Referral %
Profit per unit = Price − Product cost − Referral fee − FBA fee − Storage − Inbound shipping − Ads − Other
Break-even price = (All costs except the referral fee) ÷ (1 − Referral %)

Worked example

A product sells for 25 and costs 6. The referral fee is 15% (3.75) and the example FBA fee is 4.00, plus 0.10 storage, 0.50 shipping to Amazon and 2.00 advertising per unit.

Total costs are 16.35, so profit is 8.65 per unit, a 34.6% margin and a 133% return on the 6.50 landed cost. At 300 units a month that's 2,595 profit. The break-even price is 14.82.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good profit margin on Amazon FBA?

Many sellers aim for enough margin to absorb rising advertising costs, returns and fee changes. Run the numbers at a lower price too, since competition often pushes prices down. The profit margin calculator can help you set a target.

Why is my real payout lower than this?

Returns, refunds, long-term storage, removal fees, low-inventory fees and promotions all reduce your payout, and they vary from month to month. Add an average per unit to "Other costs" to allow for them.

Does this include sales tax or VAT?

No. Use prices without tax. In many countries Amazon collects and pays sales tax for you; if you're VAT-registered, work with prices excluding VAT. The VAT and GST calculator can remove VAT from a price.
